no más
So we´ve been in Barcelona a few days now, enough time for me to well and truly fall in love with it. This is definitely my favourite place so far. Everything is so colourful and happy and it has a diversity Italy didn´t. Even though I love Florence and Rome everything was very... the same. The food. The people. The clothes. The music. Barcelona, however, is diverse in every way. I can´t imagine ever getting sick of it as everyday it seems to offer something new.
When we first arrived we walked down `La Rambla´ and through the surrounding area. It was buzzing when we were there. Apparently there was some festival going on that we were totally unaware of until it was over. There were street performers everywhere and groups of guys breakdancing up and down the length of the entire street. It was pretty cool.
The following day we went to "the Gothic". An area full of great little restaurants, bars and boutiques BUT we were there for the Picasso museum. It was a great way to spend the afternoon. I´m 100% sure that going to museums and galleries is good for your mental health. I always feel wiser and calmer when I leave an exhibit. Maybe it´s just because you´re forced to be silent and wonder and think. Whatever it is. It´s good. After that we experienced our first tapas meal. And SHUT THE FRONT DOOR it was delicious. We had crumbed deep fried camembert (healthy) which came with some raspberry sauce, traditional spanish sausage, squid rings, spicy potato and bread with tomato. Yum. O.
Yesterday we went to the Sagrada Familia a.k.a the big ass Gaudi church. It was pretty incredible. Especially once you step inside. And they´re not even close to finishing! I now have an excuse to come back, I NEED to see the finished product. It makes me sad that Gaudi himself will never be able to see it completed. I wonder if he would be happy with it. All his original plans were burned in a fire so the current architects are working off the broken plaster remains of sculptures that he also used to design. No pressure guys. Don´t EF it up.
And finally today. Today we went shopping. I needed a new coat to replace the one I threw away in rome and the one I accidentally left behind in Rome (sad face). I ended up going a little crazy. I bought a new black coat (black=super versatile) a top, a scarf and many many socks... I don´t know what all the socks were about. I will just have to live off bananas and capsicum for a while to make up for all the money I dropped of socks today. Oh well. Worth it. On the way back to the hostel we stopped at catalunya plaza to just sit and people watch. It´s absolutely crawling with pigeons because the street vendors there sell seed to tourists, who, for some reason or another, want to have disease infested flying rats land on them. It can be quite terrifying when they all flock towards you. I have plenty of hilarious footage of Sarah and I squealing and running for cover. There was one young boy who spent at least an hour chasing the pigeons and catching them. Yes. Catching them. When he managed to grab one he would hold it for a second and then throw it in the air. It was kinda traumatic. Most of the time he would just get their tail feathers. He would look at the bunch of feathers in his hand in disgust and throw the them in the air and scream. It was so odd. I wondered where his parents were and why they let him spend hours on end chasing pigeons. Irresponsible indeed. I was very close to going over and telling him to stop traumatising pigeons but thought a) he probably can´t speak english and I definitely can´t speak spanish and b) this seems to be the behaviour of a future serial killer and perhaps I shouldn´t piss him off.
Tomorrow I think we´re going to "magic fountain"... I´m not exactly sure what it is but I hope it´s exactly what the name suggests. Oh Christine and Otis also arrive tomorrow. I think we´re going to go get Paella and Sangria. Should be fun.
s´all for now.

too. many. australians.
Since Vienna we´ve been to Munich, Venice, Florence, Rome and today we arrived in Barcelona. I´ll start from the start yeh? yeh.
MUCHEN
oh em gee. When we arrived I was so happy. Loving life. We quickly found our hostel (it was across the road from the hauptbanhof) settled in, got some kickass chinese food, had a few beers and when to sleepy times. The next day we did our own walking tour which consisted mostly of shopping and then we got all jazzed up to go to the Augustiner beer hall for weiners and well... beer. It was alright. But the minus temperatures = Jac gets a cold = jac is tired and cranky. Our last day we got all rugged up ready to take on Munich one last time but everything was closed... galleries. shops. museums... so we went and saw a movie. Shittest tourists ever. I didn´t realise at the time but it seemed I was steadily growing to hate Munich more and more and when I slipped on the black ice in the middle of a busy street (hands in pockets... unable to break my fall) I was done.
VENEZIA
When we got off the train in Venice it was truly a joyous occasion. The sun was shining. Birds were singing. Gypsies were Gypsying. Venice is such a magical place. Sounds lame right? Well you abviously haven´t been there cause it truly is. It´s unnatural that such a place exists. Every side street is picture perfect. It was almost nauseating. I found myself wondering how I could possibly go back to Melbourne/ANYWHERE after having experienced this mystical place. Well... the novelty soon wears off. Don´t get me wrong it´s still one of my favourite places but there are only so many masks and glass rings you can look at before you start yawning and shuffling your feet. The hostel we stayed at was really lovely. Actually... it was somewhat falling apart but the guy who ran it (alex) was a total doll. He saved us eggs when the Chileans were taking more than their fair share. He cooked us dinner every night. And played us songs on his Guitar. He was great. It was here that we also met Otis, Christine and Michael. Three fellow Australians who ended up following us to Florence and Rome. When we were together I often forgot I wasn´t in australia. So many Australians.
FIRENZE
When I think of our time in florence I think of shopping. Gelato. and Pizza. Oh my god the pizza. We literally just ate the entire time we were there. And anything we did in between was just killing time until our next meal. During our eating breaks we did manage to squeeze in seeing il Duomo, The Statue of David and we did a day trip to Pisa. All of which were ahhhh pretty cool but don´t compare to the amazing pistaccio ice cream I had on the day we arrived. I. DIE.
ROMA
Next was Roma. Wow. What a place. I knew there was a lot to see but really Rome??? Quit showing off. The first day we saw the Colloseum. Amazing. Then the Pantheon. And the Trevi Fountain, the Piazza Nuova (where Tartufo ice cream was born) and some other ruins. It was ridiculous. Everything was so old. History around every corner. And once again Gelato around every corner. DANGER. I think I put on like 3 kilos in Italy. I promise I´ll be better in Spain. Churros aren´t my thing. We left Michale, Christine and Otis in Rome (sad face) but might cross paths at some stage here in Barcelona. We arrived this afternoon and whilst we´ve only done a quick walk around so far I can tell I´m gonna love it. YAY.
I thinks thats all
I´m rushing cause I´m hogging the computer.
please excuse any spelling mistakes.
Muchas Gracias
